A look at Trackman’s simulator golf tour – the Next Tour
The Next Tour had their inaugural season last year and just started their second season of simulator golf. To me, it's a no-brainer for players with access to a trackman simulator: no travel or travel costs, a very low entry fee, and a potential $200,000 purse. Also, it is backed by a reputable company, so players can feel secure they will get paid. I put together some FAQ’s for players.
Entry Fee:
$130 (also cost of using sim if you play in a public simulator center)
Purse:
$100,000 guaranteed. $150,000 guaranteed events 3-6. Purses increase to $200,000 and $250,000 if the field is full (1000 players)
Payout:
30% of the field paid, plus side games. $30,000 in the side games pot.
What are the side games?
What are the payouts for the side games?
Closest to pin par 3 total- 1st $4000, 2nd $2500, 3rd $1500
Longest Drive- 1st $2500, 2nd $1500, 3rd $1,000
Social Media (posts and promotion about the Tour)- two $2000, two $1000
Longest birdie streak/Most greens in regulation- 1st $1500, 2nd $1000, 3rd $500
How many events?
Total of 7. 2 have been played already, sign up for the third event ends January 3rd.
The seventh event is the top 100 players from the season long Order of Merit.
Who can play?
Men and Women, Pros and Amateurs with a 3.4 index or below.
Men and Women compete in the same event, with women playing at 85% of the yardage.
When do players get paid?
Next Tour pays once a month.
Have there been any issues?
Yes. Both of the issues that have come up are addressed below.
Will Grimmer was DQ’d after it was discovered in his video that an alignment aid was in place. The alignment device was not placed by Will, but was there from someone else who had used the simulator. In other videos it seemed that there were others who hit with alignment aids present but weren’t disqualified. The Next Tour determined that the aid Will used was not permanent, therefore, should have been removed. Alignment aids that were a permanent part of the simulator would be allowed. A full explanation is in the article below. Will was awesome about the process and even made a vid.
A second issue occurred in round 2 where a few players hit shots with zero spin axis. Therefore the ball would go perfectly straight (although it had to still be hit on line). The Next Tour investigated it and determined that the players were not cheating (every shot is videotaped via the app). The Tour did adjust the rules for the next event. The full explanation below:
