Major Championship Qualifying Routes

An overview of open qualifying routes into major golf championships, including local, regional, final, and exemption-based pathways.

Reviewed for the 2026 season

Open pathways differ by championship

Major championships do not share one qualifying format. Open championships can combine exemptions with local, regional, or final qualifying, while other majors may rely primarily on published exemption categories and designated events.

The governing organization for each championship publishes the authoritative eligibility, entry, and exemption rules. Dates and available places can change annually.

Monday Q’s coverage approach

We build durable season pages for the U.S. Open and The Open, update canonical result pages as play unfolds, and connect the scores with the players’ undercovered stories. The goal is to make the qualifying journey understandable without replacing official player instructions.

  • Use the season hubs for dates, sites, results, and qualified players.
  • Use the official championship site for eligibility and entry decisions.
  • Return to the same Monday Q result URL for live updates and the final archive.
