Sadly, the Wells Fargo will be one of the last Monday Q’s for a designated event that the PGA Tour holds. As I am traveling to the LPGA event today, I wanted to quickly break down the field, give a little information on the course and make my picks.
The field:
Strippers in the field: Harry Higgs
PGA Tour winners: 5- Bo Van Pelt, Matt Every, Martin Trainer, Vaughn Taylor, Eric Axley
One-handed chippers: Austen Truslow, Austen chips with just his right hand on some chips
From a China Monday to here: David Kocher, Kocher went to a PGA Tour China Monday Q in 2019, got thru finished 2nd and never looked back.
What if?: Jamie Lovemark, a decorated amateur career and a solid start to his pro career was derailed by a long list of injuries. Here is hoping he can have a long stretch of good health and get back to the tour.
A lot of heart: Erik Compton, as many know Erik is currently on his third heart after two transplants. He has been out there so long I often take for granted his miraculous story.
Cheapest push cart: Brian Davis, I am not on sight this week, so I can’t confirm it, but my guess is Davis has his trusty $48 pull cart with him.
Stephen Curry’s favorite players in the field: Alex Heffner, to be fair I didn’t ask Steph, but just assume that the junior from Davidson is.
Best Lettuce: Jared du Toit, for those that don’t speak Canadian, lettuce is hair, and Jared has classic hockey hair, that would flow out of the bottom of his helmet.
Names that don’t sound like they are spelled: Peter Kuest, how in the world is Kuest pronounced “Quest”. I struggle enough with spelling and pronunciation, you can’t throw me curveballs like this.
Legendary Grinders: Scott Harrington, Matt Short, Ryan Sullivan, Shawn Stefani, Kyle Reifers, Countless Monday Q’s and mini-tour events played between this group.
Famous son: Sean Jacklin, son of Major winner Tony Jacklin.
Won’t be Am for long: Caleb Surrat, my lord this kid is a stud. As a freshman at Tennessee he AVERAGED 69 and won the SEC championship. It will be no surprise at all if he gets thru today.
The Course:
Rolling Hills Country Club: 6,802 yards, 73.0 rating, 135 slope. According to the Carolina’s PGA section, the course is really wet from the rain, but should be in great shape this morning. With soft greens and a pretty short course, it might take a really low one to get through.
My picks:
Caleb Surrat
Taylor Dickson
Danny Guise
Stephen Stallings Jr
